Have you got your hot water bottles and heat pads ready for these hairless pigs in case the winter is severe as predicted
Skinnys are from our own experience much more friendly than regular guinea pigs so easier to handle and are ideal for indoor pets as they are quite clean in themselves, because they are about 95% hairless with the exception of a small tuft of hair on there foreheads and round there ankles they need to be kept indoors at all times preferably with either a blanket or cavy cosies to keep them warm. A heater is also a good idea but not too close as it can dry out there skin. When you touch there skin it is surprisingly warm and they need to maintain this body temperature of about 76 degrees to do this they will eat more food than other piggies as well as fresh veg every day including lots of greens, the key is variety they get bored with the same food just like we do.Vitamin C is vital for there on going health so l recommend fresh fruit like apples/grapes, tomatoes and bannana's especially for pregnant sows.
I DO NOT LINE BREED OR BREED BACK TO BACK, IN THESE TWO RARE BREEDS MORE CARE HAS TO BE TAKEN AS THEY STILL HAVE THEIR WEAKNESSES AND YOU WILL SEE THAT WHEN YOU HAVE DEFORMED BABIES, OUR GUARANTEE IS SUCH WE DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO DETRIMENT THE BREED AS WE HAVE HEARD SOME DO , find out who what and where are your pigs coming from and pedigree's are a must if only short. DON'T BUY FROM BACK STREET BREEDERS OR PET SHOPS AS THEY DON'T give enough info FOR breeding correctly always get pedigree's and always good strong healthy large pigs not tiny one's.
The BALDWIN is still a rare breed in this country, so to make sure the new breed does not die out many of us are breeding for the stmulas of rearing healthy stock so maybe one day we can show here, when the breed is recognised by the original cavy council, these rare pigs need careful management and even though some go to pet homes we know some always go for breeding so we take care to make sure our pigs are good and healthy to help the breed get well established and ready for that day the C.C say yes you can show them now as they do in Europe and the States. We always send ours out with insurance to make sure people are more secure with buying these expensive pigs and we believe we're the first to do this we searched everywhere for insurance and found it, as we search for exclusive types from reputable people such as vets/doctors and professionals people in Europe as well as show people, please be assure we breed to establish healthy guinea pigs and like to think we are providing them to you to the very best of our abilities, do not buy from back street breeders or pet shops they do not care about the breed only cashing in words are cheap, if l have none at anytime we can always reccomend you to other reputable breeders who do not hide under words or behind close doors, so BE CAREFUL WHO YOU BUY FROM. We go to a great deal of expense to bring in the best we can find so the pigs can benefit not us... the breed.
My cavery hutches with all my lovely piggies each is 4ft long with an ezi-filla water bottle, l use them as they are really easy hutches to clean out and the bottles too which i find are much easier to get a bottle brush in and are algae resistant.
I now happily provide 30 days free insurance with every guinea pig as standard, l will give you a voucher already filled out by myself and you simply ring up the company on the number provided on the voucher to activate the policy.
I am always happy to arrange delivery anywhere in britian for my guinea pigs, there is a small charge for this service which varies depending on your location, you can view a Guide for delivery charges simply by clicking here.I can also arrange delivery to france but please contact me first for more details.
BEWARE THIS WINTER, GET HEAT PADS AND HOTWATER BOTTLES MAY SAVE LIVES AS HAIRLESS PIGS CANNOT SURVIVE EXTREMES IN TEMPERATURE, fleeces are really useful they love to snug underneath.
There is a really nice site which sells cavy cozys which i personally recommend, they are machine washable and are really good for protecting there skin.
OLDER SKINNY PIGS
Due to a number of people asking me l want to make it clear l do on occasion have older pigs for sale if you wouId like to be notified if one becomes available please join the site,or call me directly on 07599701900 or 0145844082.
Skinny pigs and carriers as well as Baldwins tend be more friendly than regular guinea pigs and so are easier to handle, l've also had a few people tell me that they have wanted a little piggy for some time but find regular ones too difficult too handle but that the skinnys with there much more friendier nature are far easier too handle, l may be a bit biased but after keeping and breeding both type's l would have to agree.
WHAT IS A SKINNY PIG?
A skinny pig is just like a regular pig in general size and appearance except that they are 95% hairless NOT COMPLETELY HAIRLESS LIKE MOST PEOPLE THINK,the typical skinny will have small tufts of hair around the ankles and a little about the nose.Sometimes also having some hair on the rest of the face as well. There are two main types of hairless guinea pig,the skinny which is nearly hairless and the baldwin, the skinny pig and has no hair at all on its body, legs or face. They can come in variety of colours but most are darker colours such as black, chocolate, gold etc....
There is also a cross between the two called a werewolf which is the result of a mating between a regular guinea pig and a skinny guinea pig, they usually have hair over a large proportion of there body but it is spread thin and far apart usually with bald patches in between.
HOW TO SEX A GUINEA PIG
Sexing a guinea pig is really quite simple and here,s how you do it, take your piggy and while sitting down turn him or her over onto their back and take a good look at there genitals a female has a y shaped appearance and a male has a small dot, on older males you will also be able to see the testes on either side which will appear at two small lumps under the skin.In the case of a younger boar where it isn't quite so obvious if you gently pull back the foreskin his penis will come out it shouid be hooked shaped. below you will see two pictures one of a skinny boar (boy) and a werewolf sow (girl).
SKINNY BOAR WEREWOLF SOW
I recommend using burgess excel guinea pig nuggets as they seem to do quite well on them in my experience, i always give plenty of seed to start with every piggie that goes to a new home.
